The Orange Dance Charge is a phone charger that you wear on your arm and generates electricity via kinetic movement. Inside the armband is a system of weights and magnets connected to a storage battery. After a full on groove session at your favorite club, simply attach the battery to your mobile for a power up.
Orange will be outfitting a number of dancers at this year’s
Glastonbury Festival (probably the best known music festival in England) to build hype for the device, which is said to go
on sale in the Fall. Orange better make the Dance Charger mudproof. Orange seems big at Glastonbury. It revealed a recharge Pod tent to keep mobile juices.

The Cloud is an organic sculptural landmark that responds to human interaction and expresses context awareness using hundreds of sensors and over 15,000 individually addressable optical fibers. Constructed of carbon glass, spanning over four meters, and containing more than 65 kilometers of fiber optics, the Cloud encourages visitors to touch and interact with information in new ways, manifesting emotions and behavior through sound and a dichotomy of luminescence and darkness.
Located in downtown Florence outside the Fortezza da Basso. The Cloud is part of the “Redesigning Fashion Trade Shows” project that Pitti Immagine launched with MIT Mobile Experience Lab in January 2007. It is a long-term project that will creatively rethink the trade show concept and will propose innovative technologies, perspectives and sensory experiences for fashion trade shows.

Gazelena is created by Allistar D. Peters & Meng Li for the class Sousveilance Culture at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). Gazelena had a well-documented trip through downtown Manhattan in the afternoon of April 22, 2008.
Meng and Allistar describe Gazelena as an urban intervention performance to explore the street voyeurism and exhibitionism addressing the issues of gaze, voyeurism, power, pleasure, and exhibitionism. The issues are documented with external links.

SHAREWEAR is an investigative fashion and technology collaboration involving British fashion designer Di Mainstone and V2_, Institute for the Unstable Media. Di has a specific signature design that you were previously seen at the project Skorpions at XS Labs that I also featured in my book Fashionable Technology. For three months Di has worked intensively with the team at V2_Lab, combining art, fashion, and technology and the likes of Vincent Leclerc and Lucy McRae (also known for her work for the research projects Design Probe program: SKIN at Philips Design) who are also represented in my book.

SHAREWEAR comprises of a pair of reconfigurable, electronic dresses that physically slot together to activate dramatic pools of light. Worn by identical twins as part of a performance, the dresses take influence from modernist and contemporary furniture design. These wearable sculptures integrate the very latest in cutting-edge technology alongside traditional pattern making and upholstery techniques.
SHAREWEAR garments provoke exchange within their own network as well as encourage audience members to unveil a series of potential narratives. They alter behaviors, by hiding or revealing hidden secrets. They link to divulge new landscapes. They peel apart to offer glimpses of hidden interiors. They join to release shards of light and cast long shadows.
Upcoming presentations include The Wereld van Witte de With Festival on September 12 and 13, 2008 in Rotterdam (NL) and the Today’s Art Festival - September 26 and 27, 2008 in The Hague (NL).

Dutch fashion design arrives at the Barbican

The Barbican is one of my London fixtures.
The House of Viktor & Rolf presents each of the designer’s signature pieces from 1992 to now, shown in a specially commissioned and characteristically theatrical installation that dominates the entire Gallery. Highlights include pieces from Atomic Bomb, 1998–99, featuring dramatic mushroom cloud-like cushioned necklines and Russian Doll, 1999–2000, in which a single model was painstakingly dressed by Viktor & Rolf until she was gasping under 70 kilogrammes of exquisite haute couture. For the collection Bells, 2000-2001, models emerged from a smoke-filled space in clothes embroidered with hundreds of brass bells, so they were heard before they could be seen. Drawing on the Dutch tradition of silver plating a baby’s first shoe as a keepsake, the climax of Viktor & Rolf’s Autumn/Winter collection of 2006–07, was a strapless wedding dress with a wide petticoated knee length skirt, silver plated, including even the bride’s bouquet.
